Neighborhood Captains
Neighborhood Captains are needed in every South County neighborhood to be conduits of emergency preparedness information. Having neighborhoods trained for the aftermath of disasters (severe winter storms, hazardous spills, floods, earthquakes and tsunamis, etc.) is critical for personal and family preparedness, and for creating resiliency in our communities.
Neighborhood Captains learn the nine steps that are important to take immediately following a disaster; learn how to differentiate between local and distant tsunamis; and learn how to recognize different behavioral needs depending on the type of disaster. Neighborhood captains are trained in various aspects of emergency communication. They also manage emergency contact lists and emergency supplies for their neighborhoods.
